Ondinnok's mission

Ondinnok is the only Native theatre company in Quebec. Founded in 1985 by Yves Sioui Durand, Catherine Joncas and John Blondin, the company has won acclaim both here and abroad for the originality of its productions. Its mission is to create a Native mythological theatre that integrates initiatory traditions and contemporary theatre practice: a theatre that is innovative and responsive to the present, asserting the power of art over reality. Ondinnok's work is part of a vast pan-Canadian Native theatre movement sustained by artists such as Tomson Highway, Margo Kane and Drew Hayden Taylor.
